Lawn Care & Yard Work β€” Dallas TX

The Yard

Dallas homeowner who'd been out of town for a few weeks came back to a yard that had gotten ahead of them. Happens fast in the summer β€” Dallas grass doesn't wait around. The front was overgrown, the back had weeds pushing up through the beds, and the edging along the driveway and sidewalk had gone soft. They wanted everything knocked back into shape before the weekend.

We came out the next morning and handled it top to bottom.

What We Did

  • Mowed front and back yards β€” dropped the height down in stages rather than cutting more than a third of the blade at once, which scalps the grass and stresses it in summer heat
  • Edged along the driveway, sidewalk and front walkway β€” hard edges make a yard look intentional. It's one of those details that separates a maintained yard from one that just got mowed
  • Trimmed along the fence line and foundation β€” the spots a mower can't reach without getting into areas it shouldn't be
  • Pulled weeds from the flower beds β€” got them out by the root, not just clipped at the surface
  • Blew all clippings off the driveway, sidewalk and porch β€” left the hard surfaces clean before we packed up
  • Bagged and removed all yard waste β€” nothing left at the curb for the homeowner to deal with

Lawn Care in Dallas Summers

Texas summers are hard on lawns. The combination of heat, humidity, and occasional drought stress means grass needs consistent attention β€” not too much water, not too little, and not cut too short. Scalping warm season grasses like Bermuda and St. Augustine in summer heat sets them back and leaves bare patches that weeds love to move into.

The goal on every cut is to take off the top third of growth, keep the edges tight, and leave the clippings to break down and feed the soil if the growth is light enough. When it's gotten long, bagging is better so the clippings don't mat down and block light from the grass underneath.

How Often Should You Mow in Dallas?

During peak growing season β€” May through September β€” most Dallas lawns need mowing every 7 to 10 days. Bermuda grass can grow fast enough to need it every week when it's getting regular water. In the cooler months it slows down considerably. If you're letting it go longer than two weeks in summer, you're going to be cutting more than a third off at once and stressing the grass every time.

How It Turned Out

Yard went from overgrown and scraggly to clean and even in about an hour and a half. Tight edges, clean beds, hard surfaces blown off. The homeowner texted us saying it looked better than it had all summer and asked about setting up regular biweekly visits. That's the kind of feedback we like.
