Bidet Installation β€” Irving TX

The Job

Irving homeowner had ordered a bidet seat online β€” one of the electric models with the heated seat and warm water β€” and wanted it installed properly rather than attempting it themselves. Smart call. These units involve both a water connection and an electrical connection, and if either one isn't done right you end up with a leak under the toilet or a GFCI tripping every time you use it.

They had the unit, we had the tools. In and out in under an hour.

What We Did

  • Shut off the water supply to the toilet β€” flushed the tank to clear it, confirmed no water pressure before disconnecting anything
  • Removed the existing toilet seat β€” cleaned the mounting area on the porcelain before the new unit went on
  • Installed the bidet mounting plate β€” positioned and secured properly so the unit sat flush and didn't rock
  • Connected the T-valve to the fill valve β€” this is where the water supply splits to both the toilet tank and the bidet. Hand tightened first, then snugged with a wrench β€” not overtightened, which is where most DIY installs create a slow drip
  • Connected the bidet water supply line β€” routed cleanly without kinking
  • Verified a GFCI outlet was within reach β€” electric bidets need to plug into a GFCI outlet. This one had one behind the toilet already. If it hadn't, that would've been a separate conversation
  • Powered the unit on and tested all functions β€” water temperature, pressure settings, seat heat, the works. Made sure everything was responding before leaving
  • Checked every connection for drips β€” ran through a full flush cycle and waited several minutes watching the T-valve and supply line connections

Where DIY Bidet Installs Go Wrong

The T-valve connection. It's easy to either under-tighten it β€” which leads to a slow drip that soaks the cabinet under the tank over weeks β€” or overtighten it and crack the plastic fitting. Neither shows up immediately. You notice it when there's water on the floor or the cabinet smells musty. Getting the connection snug but not forced takes some feel for it, especially with plastic fittings on older supply valves.

The other issue is the electrical. If there's no GFCI outlet within reach, some people run an extension cord, which is a code violation and a safety issue. If your bathroom doesn't have the right outlet, get one installed properly before the bidet goes in.

Thinking About a Bidet? Here's What to Know First

Non-electric bidet attachments are the simplest β€” cold water only, no power needed, easiest install. Electric bidet seats give you warm water and heated seats but need a GFCI outlet within about 4 feet of the toilet. Standalone bidet fixtures require their own plumbing rough-in entirely. Most people go with an electric seat β€” good balance of comfort and install simplicity when done right.

How It Went

Unit mounted clean, no leaks at any connection, everything functioning. The homeowner did a quick test run before we left and said it was exactly what they were hoping for. One of those installs that looks simple from the outside and goes smoothly when it's done right from the start.
